Das Veranstaltungsformat „Schlagstrom“ gibt es seit August 2003. Mit einem ersten Event gelang es damals unserer kleinen Gruppe von Enthusiasten und Musikern weit abseits des Mainstreams, den Grundstein für eine ganz besondere Plattform für experimentelle Kunst und Musik in Berlin zu schaffen.

Viele Klangkünstler und Sounddesigner mit urbanen Visionen für maschinelle Musik und Klänge fanden seit dem bei den Festivals und Veranstaltungen von Schlagstrom eine Heimat und Bühne.

10 Jahre Schlagstrom!

..Industrial ist zugleich zeitlose Monotonie und totaler Overflow, Symbiose und existenzielle Auslese, energetische Dynamik und kalte Konsequenz. Industrial gibt keine Antworten vor, es erkundet spielerisch und (manchmal schmerzhaft) stringent die Möglichkeiten, wie

diese Konfrontation ausgehen kann: Ein künstlerischer Abenteuertrip zwischen Kontrollverlust, Diktatur der Ratio, überhöhendem Exzess und dem „Unconditional Surrender“ an das maschinelle Alter Ego.

Neu Dieses Jahr: Zwei extra Tage zum 10-jährigen

Das zehnjährige Jubiläum unserer Festivalreihe zum Anlass nehmend, haben wir für 2013 die Idee, das Festival musikalisch zu erweitern und dabei einzelne Musikrichtungen in Tiefe und künstlerischer Substanz auszubauen. Dafür haben wir uns statt eines zwei- ein viertägiges Musikfestival vorgenommen. Statt einer permanenten Parallelität der Programmstränge und Musikstile werden wir dieses Jahr das Festival selbst choreographieren – und wollen daher einen eher emotionalen Ein- uns Ausklang generieren, während die beiden Wochenend-Abende die Erwartungen nach druck volleren Sounds, einer künstlerisch-intellektuellen Auseinandersetzung mit den verschiedenen Genres sowie einer ausgelassenen Festivalkultur bedienen.

1. Tag : Donnerstag (01.08.)

Zum Einstimmung auf die kommenden Tage wollen wir das Festival mit einem speziellen Konzertabend eröffnen. Dieser soll in einer Kirche stattfinden – um die sakrale Ästhetik und besonderen Klangeigenschaften von Kirchenbauten in den Kontext urbaner Ambient-Klangkunst zu stellen. Im Spannungsfeld zwischen Beständigkeit und Flüchtigkeit, Tradition und Moderne sowie nicht-rationaler Erfahrungen und urbaner Realität soll hier ein Klangraum erzeugt werden, der ein In sich kehren, ein Innehalten und sich Einlassen auf eine spannungsreiche Welt aus nicht greifbaren Wahrheiten ermöglicht. Geplant ist eine musikalische Reise zwischen ambient-experimentellen Stilen.

4. Tag : Sonntag (04.08.)

Ebenso wie der Donnerstag einen ambienten Einstieg in ein Festival aus ansonsten eher lauten und manchmal durchaus schrägen Klängen, Sounds und Musik bietet, so wollen wir das diesjährige Festival auch ruhig ausklingen lassen. Ein Prozess des Verarbeitens und der Umstellung von einem außergewöhnlichen Wochenendprogramm auf den alltäglichen Rhythmus der Normalität. Ein sanfter, persönlicher Abschied bis zum nächsten Jahr, ein intimer Moment, in dem alle Kontakte geknüpft, jede Impression gespürt, alles Neue erhört, jedes Wiedersehen genossen und jede Vision skizziert ist.

Aus diesem Grund ist ein Schlafkonzert angedacht.

Von 18.oo Uhr bis 23:00  werden 3 Bands spielen und der Abend wird von DJ Zappi (Faust) begleitet. Ab 23:00 Uhr werden Betten aufgebaut, das Licht gedämmt um mit dem Schlafkonzert zu beginnen. Dieses Konzert geht bis 8.00 Uhr morgens, danach ist ein gemeinsames Frühstück mit allen Teilnehmern geplant um über die gesammelten Eindrücke und Gedanken der letzten Tage zu sprechen. Ein emotionaler Abschuss des Festivals.

The event format Schlagstrom came into existence in August 2003. With our first event, our small group of enthusiasts and musicians far beyond the mainstream laid the ground for a special platform for experimental art and music in Berlin.

Schlagstrom festivals and events provide a home and stage for noise artists and sound designers with urban visions for machine music and sounds.

10 years of Schlagstrom!

Industrial is timeless monotony and total overflow, symbiosis and existential selection, energetic dynamics and cold consequence at the same time. Industrial gives no answers, it explores the possible outcome of confrontation in a playful and (sometimes painfully) stringent way: an artistic adventure trip between loss of control, dictatorship of ratio, exorbitant excess and the „Unconditional Surrender” to the mechanical alter ego.

New this year: two extra days for the 10-year anniversary

Taken the occasion of the ten year anniversary of our festival we decided to extend the 2013 event and expand certain music styles in depth and in artistic substance. Therefore we have organized a four days festival, instead of two days as in previous years. Rather than a permanent parallelism of the programmes and music styles we will make our own choreography of the festival this year – generating an emotional intro and conclusion while the two main nights on Friday and Saturday will serve the expectations towards more powerful sounds, the artistic-intellectual confrontation with different genres and a lively festival culture.

Day 1: Thursday (01.08.)

For tuning in to the upcoming days we will open the festival with a special concert night. Taking place in a church – in order to set the sacred aesthetics and special sound characteristics of church buildings in the context of urban ambient sound art. In the area of conflict between resistance and volatility, tradition and modernity, as well as non-rational experiences and urban reality a sonic space is to be created, allowing introversion, taking a break and engagement in an exciting world of elusive truths. We have planned a musical trip through ambient-experimental styles.

Day 4: Sunday (04.08.)

While Thursday provides an ambient start of the festival which is otherwise filled with oblique noises, sounds and music, we also want to fade it out quietly enabling everyone to process their experiences by offering a change-over from an extraordinary week-end programme to the everyday rhythm of normality. We want to facilitate a glance in the reflective mirror while the still curling waves of inspiration on its surface calm down as the creative source, the Schlagstrom festival comes to an end. A gentle, personal farewell until next year, an intimate moment after all connections have been made, all impressions have been felt, everything new has been heard, reunions have been enjoyed and every vision has been outlined.

For this reason a sleep concert is scheduled.

From 6pm to 11 pm we will create an “Inner Space” with the audio-visual group “Avantgarde”, i.e. arrange a programme for the inner focus leaving many free spaces for individual reception. Three bands will play and the evening will be accompanied by Dj Zappi (Faust), with the aim to lead the visitors to their very own creative core. At 11pm beds will be set, at midnight tea will be served and the light will be dimmed. The sleep concert begins and lasts until 8 in the morning, followed by a joint breakfast with all participants in order to discuss the experiences and impressions of the past days. An emotional conclusion of the festival.

Die Fuckparade ist für uns in jedem Jahr die Möglichkeit unsere zumeist in kleinen Zusammenhängen dargestellte Musik einem breiteren Publikum zu präsentieren und für den Erhalt von - teilweise auch illegalen - Clubs und Parties zu protestieren. Die Fuckparade selbst unterstützen wir seit vielen Jahren sowohl inhaltich als auch organisatorisch.
Verdrängung, Vertreibung und Vernichtung von Subkultur ist auch vorallem in diesem Jahr wieder eine Thema, vor dem wir nicht die Augen verschließen wollen - zumal wir selbst v.a. in diesem Jahr besonders davon betroffen sind. Die Nischen für nicht massenkompatible und experimentelle Musik werden wieder kleiner. Aber aufgeben kommt nicht in Frage! Wir kämpfen dafür, dass die Stadt nicht im musikalischen Einheitsbrei erstickt.
Kein Bock haben wir übrigens auf Nazis bei der Fuckparade. Daher rufen wir alle Beteiligten und Unterstützer auf, dafür zu sorgen, dass diese Leute sich von unserer Demo fernhalten!

Mallory Yago and Michael Zodorozny, met while attending art
school in Philadelphia, USA.

The band was formed as a way to explore performance art and
music, which the members desperately needed to express.
Choosing toy instruments and live drums out of necessity, CCIS
began to experiment with a series of recording devices. The toy
instruments gave way to crude drum machines and 'Frankenstein'
typehomemade instruments. As a result, CCIS came upon a
sound they could call their own.

Their first single, “Cakes in the Home”, `was a 7'' record that
introduced listeners’ to the noisy, humorous, unpredictable world
that is Crash Course in Science. It also included the
“classic” 'Kitchen Motors' as well as 'Mechanical Breakdown'.
Their 7'' record was released in the USA on 'GO GO Records'
and in England on Rough Trade in 1979. Kitchen Motors was
also included on the“Machines” compilation on Virgin Records in 1980.


The songs 'Cardboard Lamb' and'Flying Turns' quickly became
club favorites during the early 80's. This record has been regarded
as influential to the techno industrial genres and was an early
inception of what is now known as the ‘electro’ sound. This record
is still highly sought after by collectors and fans today.

The members of the group are also involved in film and video
projects including ’Cardboard Lamb' and 'Glamour Pills’, which
have been shown on television and nightclubs.

Currently (2009) they released a nice collector box-set including,
amongst other releases, a reproduction of their first 7'' and the 12''
'Signals from Pier Thirteen' including the songs 'Cardboard Lamb'
and 'Flying Turns' still sound fresh and up-to-date. Also included
is the 'Near Marineland' LP containing completed mixes of
previously unreleased studio material arranged and produced by
John Wicks, CCIS's original producer and current part of the
Crash Course In Science live line-up.
After listening to this Box-Set you will be convinced and have no
doubts about CCIS being the godfather of 90's Techno-Music and
their ultimate protagonist-role. They remain an inspiration pool
for many Elektro bands/artists today.
